On the morning of July 15, 2019, Hwa Nan invited Professor Chen Guirong , Director from Institute of Women’s Studies of Fujian Normal University to give a lecture on the topic of gender mainstreaming process in China and higher education institutions.  The lecture was chaired by Deputy Party Secretary and Associate Director of Hwa Nan Women’s Studies Center Ms. Ren Jianhong,.  Teachers from Hwa Nan Women’s Studies Center attended the lecture.

Professor Chen Guirong’s lecture focused on the themes of “gender awareness raising and mainstreaming efforts in China”, “gender status and research status in the mechanism of today’s education”, and “gender education goals and content in higher education”.  She screened formative process of gender equality, gave detailed analysis of association between gender and higher education, and proposed the importance and urgency of gender equality education in higher education institutions.  After the informative lecture, teachers had discussions on relevant issues of factors affecting

Hwa Nan has all along placed importance on women’s education and research.  Through many years, Hwa Nan has developed distinctive culture and teaching style in women’s education.  The lecture helped teachers deepen understanding of social gender and enhance their gender consciousness, which will enable them to infiltrate gender perspective in their teaching and develop students’ awareness of gender equality and their capacity to act.
