At the invitation of sister colleges in North America, President Mengna Su and College Consultant Lin Benchun made a trip to New York, Tacoma, and Sioux City from March 25 to April 11.
In New York , they were warmly welcomed by Christian Herald Crusade, and United Fujianese of American. Hwa Nan history, spirit and vision was introduced to dinner attendees and highly recognized by overseas Chinese. Attending the dinner are leaders including Gongde Yang (Honorary Chair of Northeast General Chinese Union), Liu Jun (Counsellor for Science and Technology of the Permanent Mission of China to the UN), Xianqiu Zeng (General Secretary, United Fujianese of American), Qilong Lin and Yun Zhang (Executive Deputy Chairman, United Fujianese of American), Yinguan Yang (Chairman, International and Cross Strait Cultural Exchange General Association).

Two presidents paid a visit to New York headquarter of United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. They made a report to Chair Nancy Chapman on the college work and further discussed about feasibility of “Smart Library” proposal and an initiative of compiling a book entitled UB Flowers. The proposal and initiative have received strong support from the Chairman and UB staff.

Warmly Received by the Eldest Son and his wife of Hwa Nan foreign teacher Dorothy McMichael (teaching in Hwa Nan in spring, 1989), cherishing the memory of her and her linkage to Hwa Nan, Fuzhou and China.
Su and Lin visited the University of Puget Sound and the Fuzhou Ting located at the Chinese Reconciliation Park on the waterfront on Ruston Way with Chinese instructor Lotus Perry of UPS. The fourth-year Chinese students of UPS gave them a tour of campus. Su and Lin had lunch with two former Puget Sound Hwa Nan instructors, Lisa and Mikiko Long, and one of the new instructors, Irene Deng. They were invited for dinner by President Isiaah Crawford, Academic Vice President, Kris Bartanen, and Asian Studies faculty. The Presidents also met with former Fujian Normal University Faculty Exchange Program scholar, associate professor, Pierre Ly, and the current scholar, Assistant Professor, Andreas Udbye, and Associate Dean, Sunil Kukreja. Before returning to Fuzhou, both presidents spent the day with 2017-2018 Pac Rim students touring Seattle and attended the Cherry Blossom Festival at the University of Washington. The University of Puget Sound and the Hwa Nan Women’s College have had a special bond since 1996. Each year the University of Puget Sound sends a recent alumna to Fuzhou to spend a year teaching at Hwa-Nan Women’s College with the generous support of the Trimble Foundation.
